Premium Japanese White Ash allows for heat diffusion and air circulation for the smooth burning of incenses and charcoal briquettes.
Create an even bed of ash on any fire safe dish or incense burner, then use your fingers to put powdered Incense on top in the form of a small peaked mound, line, sigil, or glyph. For optimal burning, powders should be pinched to create a mountain top-like ridge along the full length of the burn. When lighting, ignite the ridge in one or more locations.
When burning charcoal, ignite the ragged edge and blow until the full length is glowing, then place on a bed of ash. Leave for 2-3 minutes or until the entire coal burns orange.

I can't believe I waited so long to get the right base for S+'s phenomenal incense offering! This works exactly perfectly and is pretty to look at in the burner as well. I am so glad I finally added it to an order -- a little goes a long way !
If you are going to burn some of the finest incense in the world, giving it this lovely base to burn on is a np-brainer. I also love the ash because it opens up the number of vessels i can safely use to burn incense -- it works as a temperature barrier in unconventional vessels to align with the planetary Sphere.
Having used charcoal since forever, I was reticient to use this ash but, now that I have, I like it SO much more than discs. The scent is cleaner and not tarnished with the linger whatever-it-is-they-put-in-discs-to-make-them-burn smell and I really enjoy the process of forming the shapes to ignite. I also really like that the dish in which I burn my incense doesn't get blisteringly hot when using the ash which means I can carry it around the house a lot more easily and don't have to worry about burners retaining heat long after the incense has gone. Also, the incense smell stays as intended rather than just smelling of that pizza you forgot to take out of the oven for so long it turned to a smoking mess of burnt cheese!
This ash works well lighting S&S loose incense due to its airy texture just as described. (Charcoal not even necessary, at least for me.)
