An oil of the Philosopher Queen, Turbulent Flow is the ordered chaos at the intersection of philosophy, faith, introspection, and knowledge. This is an oil of evolution and change, but the focus is on the evolution of your worldview, values, and belief system, enabling you to shake off the shackles of ideas that no longer serve you.
Lignum aloes, benzoin resinoid (Styrax benzoin), European ash leaves (Fraxinus excelsior), white willow bark (Salix alba), white sage essential oil and white sage from the TAL garden (Salvia apiana), Western red cedar essential oil and leaf (Thuja plicata), cedar berries (Juniperus monosperma), cardamom essential oil and pods (Elettaria cardamomum), evening primrose oil and seed (Oenothera biennis), English lavender flowers (Lavandula angustifolia), wild-harvested pine needles and pine needle essential oil (Pinus sylvestris L.), and celery seed essential oil (Solidago canadensis).

This scent is so enchanting! Carries such presence, confidence while also feeling soothing.
I am somehow not a big fan of the main oil in this series and this is the perfume I like to layer with. The benzoin notes are quite dominant, so to me, it smells like a old-fashioned perfume for women but less cloying and more uplifting. This is probably due to the woody base note and the hint of lavender. Wearing it does make your heart feel lighter and change easier.
The smell alone of this perfume is enough to want to wear it every day. But ALSO, I was very pleasantly surprised by the magical effects. It’s not like a stern teacher (like Deneb Algedi sometimes is) and more like the hand of a gentle parent, telling you that’s okay to let go of beliefs that are only hurting you. It guides you towards a more loving and wise perspective of yourself and of the world.
what will it be like there? Fresh & Masculine & Marine kind of? like your dads deodorant but more complicated. it also has this quality where you close your eyes and try to imagine a thing thats entirely foreign to you that you've only overheard little bits about, there are just like small suggestions or gestures that you can almost make into a cohesive concept but you lose it again, but you want to know. I never know what the foreign thing is no matter how many times is smell it. im familiar with the reference now & I really like knowing its out there.
I had a hard time working with this BPAL originally because something about the scent just didn't wear easily on me, resulting in my hyperawareness of that off note in the scent profile, detrimental to my experience of it. It was a very 'cool' type of scent, with a spicy, slightly musky undertone that rubbed me just this side of the wrong way. Then one day, after getting irritated by a brighter note in a different BPAL, I tried layering some of this one over it, hoping its cooler notes might counteract the ones that were bugging me. Not only did it work to mitigate the scent, but I started enjoying the effects of the first BPAL a lot more once this was layered over it! Recently I tried this trick again when working with Mantle of Concealing Night, which I'm liking, though the drydown can be a little harsh on me. When layered beneath Turbulent Flow, I find that both the scent and effects of the other BPAL are made much more digestible, as both balance each other out in surprisingly complementary ways! I'm looking forward to experimenting with more layering with TF and other BPALs I've been neglecting, to see if it helps ease me into approaching their experiences 🙂
I purchased Turbulent Flow in anticipation of Jupiter transiting my 9th, and it has been a necessary accompaniment. As someone healing from religious trauma and whose 9th house is ruled by my out of sect malefic, matters of belief can feel complicated and rigid for me at times. Turbulent Flow has helped me to remain more flexible, open-minded, and less reactive as new information pours into my sphere. 9th house transits often significantly shift my worldview and I feel that Turbulent Flow is facilitating and easing that process.
I anoint myself with Turbulent Flow for writing projects. This perfume allows me to form a gestalt of the data I need to address. Words always flow rapidly, and I enjoy the process more than usual. On more than one occasion, I have finished a piece and remarked that it was fun to write! Jupiter's collaboration through this perfume encourages me to begin and find my way. I recommend Turbulent Flow for overcoming analysis paralysis and writer's block. Wear it and you will remember why you love to write.
This statement: "enabling you to shake off the shackles of ideas that no longer serve you" is our experience of TURBULENT FLOW in a big way. Both me and my partner share this one and I feel a lot of old skin shedding when I use it and watch this forward moving nature of my partner. There have been a lot of stuck places in our mindsets and this has been a big support through the changes that free us.
I love this perfume for helping me come to terms with the changes that are on the horizon in my life, both internally and externally. Expanding the mind is a perfect term to describe its effects. It's come in handy for me over the past couple of weeks and I look forward to continuing to build a relationship with it.
How do you embrace change?
Because change is hard.
Turbulent Flow enables you to make that transition easier. It's about expanding your mind and willingness. It's about realizing that you are able to make that stretch. Turbulent Flow is embodying the philosopher king or queen, post-thinking, and moving off that throne to enact what you've come to realize.
Turbulent Flow is an excellent addition to my daily layering. It attracts the beneficial pollinators to aid in all the work, and it provides a reinforcement of boundaries for those not aiding the work, whether they be just out for a meal or intent on poisoning the well. It has an earthy scent that reminds me of well-worn leather. As much as it is drawing the right people into orbit, it is also aiding in dispensing calm wisdom and cooling the heat of the current space weather.
